CHOOSING A PLACE FOR A SCAVENGER HUNT
A scavenger hunt is something that can be enjoyed by children, even by adults. The young and the young at heart will surely love this fun activity that lets them be active. Choosing the right place for your hunt is essential so everyone can have fun. After all that’s the whole reason you’re making this event right?
When scouting out your location remember what the hunt is for, who it is for, and when it will be held. A scavenger hunt for children, typically, should be localized and simple. Kids are very adventurous and would go to places just to wander around, so it’s best to keep an eye on them wherever they go. You also need to show some creativity in the kind of hunt you are going to make for the children. Children tend to get bored quickly so you have to keep them interested.
If this is an educational scavenger hunt about nature, or insects, then a local park or a back yard of one of the parents might be a good idea. These areas are often rich with insects, small frogs, and other critters that would fit into the category. If you are planning a trip for adults, and in this case say they are architects, then you may want to do something a little more large scale.
Trying planning this hunt in a city or section of a city and see if people can identify several different sets of building designs from certain eras. This may be boring to some, but the builder in some of us would love this challenge. Or you could do a historical scavenger hunt in your town and see what you can come up with. Historians need to have fun to every once in a while, plus it never hurts to get out and walk.
If you want to try something interesting you can hold an online scavenger hunt. This is typically done by having everyone bring their laptops, or communicated via a network connection. When everyone is there you send them away to search the net for images of people, places, items, etc. The first person to find everything, save the pictures and submit them wins.
This method changes things up from the normal, and it also saves on gas. If everyone’s in the same room you can also partake of refreshments, and enjoy each others company. That is the most important part after all. Unless of course there’s some large cash reward involved then winning might be just as important. Please note that in the event the local network crashes you will have to come up with something quick to keep everyone happy.
Doing your own scavenger hunt can be easy or challenging, depending on the people participating in it.
Children can be easier to please than adults, and they can learn at the same time. Older people tend to need something far more challenging as they need to think, and walk around more. After everything is said and done however it’s important for everyone to have fun, yes a cash reward is nice, but it’s not why you came. The best thing you can do is to limit the scavenger hunt ideas so they are tailored for your audience.
