The Steel Industry Must Survive

Business secretary, Lord Mandelson visited workers at Corus Stocksbridge today to talk directly to workers at the plant.

MP Angel Smith requested the vist to show the business secretary how the plant produces top quality steel products. The plant specialises in tube manipulation and metal fabrication which is distributed to the entire world. The steel industry is suffering because more and more plastic materials are being developed everyday.

The secretary of Business for the Government assured all the workers that their jobs would be safe and that the Government is doing everything possible to make sure that they have the adequate training that they need. When the recession calms down the Steel industry will get back on its feet. Considering the current economic climate many industries across the country have been hit my lack of demand and profit flow however the Government have assured the public and local businesses that they are doing everything possible to rectify the problem as soon as they can.

Lord Mandelson later added: "The steel industry must be ready for when the credit crisis is resolved".

However there does need to be a certain amount of re-investment for the younger generation who are getting into the steel industry. These people need time to develop their careers and have good opportunities in front of them. Not only in the steel industry but in all industries. Everyone is suffering from the recession one way or another at the moment and we need to be very careful with our money.
