Making Your Own Biodiesel Can Be A Cinch!

Biodiesel is quite easy to make and there are many biodiesel machines that can make biodiesel as well as run on biodiesel. Biodiesel can be made from vegetable oil and it is a very clean energy source. If you have never made biodiesel before then it is recommended that you start small.

One thing you will need to decide is whether you want to make your fuel using either ethanol or methanol. Ethanol can be produced yourself, however it is much easier to use methanol, which must be purchased from a supplier, as there is no way to make it yourself.

Your catalyst should be made of lye and either contains sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide. These are preferred as they quickly absorb moisture in the air. Canola oil, sunflower oil, soil oil, and corn oil can all be used to make biodiesel.

You can find many sites online which sell biodiesel fuel equipment, and most of them range in prices anywhere from a few hundred dollars to several thousand. Most of the machines will come with detailed instructions on how to work the machine. It’s good to be sure that the company you purchase your fuel processor from offers customer service in which you can contact if you have any questions or run into a problem with your machine.

You will want to make sure that you have a vehicle which can run on biodiesel. Converting a car to use diesel is an expensive process, and is not always possible with some models of car. If you aren’t sure whether your vehicle can be converted, contact your car’s company and make an inquiry.

Many types of vehicles and machines are able to run on biodiesel now, including boats, cars/trucks, and even farm equipment. Making biodiesel fuel is not only a cost-effective way to run your machinery and automobile, but also a great alternative to pollution-emitting fossil fuels.

The Kangaroo Saving Australian Surf Hero

On Australia’s Gold Coast a strange but valiant life saving event took place where a passer by pulled a drowning kangaroo from the water.

Local surfer and extreme sports fan Neil McCallum spotted an object out to sea that he had never seen before. It didn’t seem to be making any progress and would occasionally be covered by a wave. As he shielded his eyes to get a better look he saw that it was in fact an infant kangaroo that had bizarrely found its way quite a distance out to sea. Neil thought quickly and grabbing one of his surfboards he headed out to see if he could help the poor creature.

The kangaroo didn’t have much energy left by the time he got to it. It had been fighting against the waves and the current for quite some time and didn’t have much energy left. Niel did make an attempt to hoist the animal up onto his surfboard, but the kangaroo wasn’t very happy with this and jumped back into the sea. A number of people in kayaks were also in the area but not close enough to help. After Neil realised that this wasn’t going to work he got the kangaroo tight against his board and holding on firmly he rode the waves back to shore. Both made it safely to land but were in need of some rest when they got there.

Ian is the name that has been given to the little fella, an ironic homage to Ian Thorpe. Experts however still cannot explain what he was doing in the water. “Kanagroos are pretty poor swimmers” says Tim Michaels of the Queensland Nature Reserve. They normally stick to land where they can move pretty well he continued, but obviously this one fancied a bit of a dip.

Ian is now back to full strength and has been eating well at an animal shelter close by. He is due be let out shortly when everyone is happy and the release site is going to be around 40 miles inland. Being the modest person that he is, Neil played down the event and said that he was just acting out of instinct and it was nothing special.

Federal Criminal Records

The NCIC was found in 1967. the main goal of the NCIC database was to have one institution storing all sensitive data in one place and giving agencies across the country one central place to retrieve information.

The NCIC was really expensive to establish. The upgrades that were done in the mid 1990’s cost over 180 million with and additional 2 billion on updating the computer system to allow all users workstation access.

The goal of the NCIC is to catch criminals, locate missing persons, stolen property and protect law enforcement personnel and the public. Information is available to federal, state, law enforcement and other criminal justice agencies 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Some of the personal records kept on the system is convicted sex offenders, criminal conviction records, foreign fugitives, immigration violators, missing persons, parolees or people on supervised release, persons with active protection orders, secret service protective alerts, terrorist organizations and memberships, unidentified human remains information, violent gang organization and membership. Property records consists of stolen property, stolen vehicle and boat parts, stolen vehicles and boats, and firearm information such as lost or missing firearms.

The FBI is the keeper of the host computer and provides a telecommunication network to CJIS system agency in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, U.S. Possessions and U.S. territories, some Islands and Canada. A CJIS system officer is the one who monitors each agencies system use, he also enforces system use and security and makes sure that all users are followign the operating procedures. Agencies are audited from time to time to ensure data quality to all security provisions.

Since the information provided on the NCIC is extremely confidential, it is important that securities and procedures to be kept in place, followed properly and maintained. the computer system must have physical security protection to make sur eno unauthorized personnell is gaining access to the computer system or any data that is stored on it. Due to the sensitivity of the information stored on the NCIC, staff has to be screened thoroughly by the authority and supervision of the control terminal agency. Anyone who is not a member of the NCIC may only view information on a computer when accompanied by a staff person at all times. The agencies must ensure that the computers they use to access the NCIC database have proper controls to prevent criminal history data from being accessible to any other terminals that are not authorized and they must maintain a record of all transactions against the criminal history file the same way the NCIC computer logs all transactions. The NCIC can identify each specific agency entering or receiving information and it maintains a record of those transactions. To detect any possible misuse of criminal history data the transactions record is monitored and reviewed on a regular basis.

Each and every state must make sure their terminals are controlled at all times and need to make sure to build their system where each inquiry has to pass for verification and screening. It should be setup to provide the integrity needed for the NCIC database system.

Safety Issues At T in The Park Music Festival

The risk of fire at T in the Park is very high. At nightime a lot of the music fans make campfire by their tents. With 140,000 people who have mostly been consuming alcohol all day and 50,000 tents it would be very easy for someone to accidentally set fire to a tent or other materials near the fires.

There’s also the risk of car fires being set, gas canisters exploding, fires in power generators and fires starting in the food stalls. These risks could be very dangerous and are a threat to the lives of staff and the customers. This event only has one dedicated fire engine to deal with these possible incidents, which personally I think is shocking and put a lot of people’s lives at risk. This risk could be minimised by dedicating more fire services to the event and having security guards around the campsite to make sure no campfires are set.

As the event is a music festival the noise levels are very high especially at the front of the stages and in the tents. Staff are exposed to the highest noise levels and this can lead to temporary or even permanent hearing loss. Noise levels at T in the Park typically range from 79 dB to 111dB in areas where people work. it is imperative therefore that all staff are issued with top quality safety equipment to protect their ears.Training would need to be given to staff to ensure that the protection is used correctly.

Risks could be reduced even more by making sure all non-essential staff are kept away from high noise areas. Speakers should be positioned in a way that staff working close by are not directly in front of them. Elevating speakers above head height can achieve this effect. Employees also need to be given adequate breaks in quiet areas to give their ears a rest.

The erection of the stages and tents can be a very risky task. Dangerous machinery, heavy lifting and working at heights could all cause risks. Staff need to be properly trained in the use of the machinery and safety equipment needs to be used. Machinery also needs to be checked over before being used to make sure that it’s safe for use. The right safety equipment can help to stop employees falling from heights and stop pieces of equipment falling onto people. The positioning of machinery can also be important as ill positioned machinery can easily fall over and cause injury. Staff should be shown how to lift objects properly as lifting things in the wrong way can cause injury. The stages or tents collapsing during or after erection pose a serious risk. Stability should be a major aspect of this process and it should be made sure that the stages and tents are safe at every level before construction continues.

As new laws prohibiting smoking in public spaces came into legislation the stages, tents and other enclosed spaces have to be smoke free zones. Risks of smoking in these areas include putting other people’s health at risk, burning people and causing fires. These risks can be eliminated completely by ensuring that this new legislation is adhered to. This is a lot harder than said though as trying to spot people smoking in a very large crowd is difficult. The situation is not helped by performers smoking on stage when they were told it was illegal. Signs stating that smoking is prohibited also need to be displayed in all enclosed areas.

Large crowds form at each of the stages and in the tents. 140,000 people is a substantial amount and risks are imminent with this large amount of people. The crowds in front of the main stages are split up into smaller areas using barriers. This makes the crowd a lot more manageable for security staff. In the crowds pushing may occur and the people at the front of each area could be crushed. This poses a serious risk as someone could be killed. The crowds also tend to jump up and down. If someone was to fall while this was happening they could be trampled on and sustain serious injuries. This risk could be minimised by making the sections smaller. This would make it a lot easier for the security staff at the event to spot a problem and try to stop it before someone gets injured. The tents should also have maximum capacities, which allow space to be left in the tent. This would allow for people to move around a lot easier and a much more manageable crowd for the security staff to deal with.

Fairground rides are present at T in the Park. These rides can pose a serious risk to staff and customers. Often the consumer doesn’t realise that their actions whilst on these rides can potentially be fatal. Undertaking stunts such as putting limbs out of carriages or acting in a dangerous manner can cause serious accidents. Unsafe machinery could also cause a major incident to occur. If a piece of a ride was to fall off or break the ride could collapse and cause serious injury or death. Alcohol plays a major part in these risks. This can be solved by not letting people who appear to be intoxicated onto the rides.

In conclusion T in the Park is a relatively safe music festival. Very few major incidents have taken place at this event. Health and safety at this event could be improved with the provision of more emergency services in case of a dangerous event taking place. Making sure that machinery and venues are safely erected and that staff are adequately trained will also help to improve the safety at this major event. A higher level of ear protection needs to be given to employees to ensure the noise levels at this event do not affect their health. Overall though the event is well organised and only minor changes need to be made to ensure the event is a success and that the staff and customers are safe.
